What is Non-Alcoholic Wine?
When I first heard about non-alcoholic wine, I wondered: Is it just grape juice in a fancy bottle? Turns out, there’s a lot more to it!
Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
Not Just Grape Juice
Unlike grape juice, non-alcoholic (NA) wine starts out as regular wine—it’s made from real wine grapes and traditionally fermented. The difference? Most of the alcohol is gently removed at the end, so you get much of the flavor and complexity of wine, but with none (or very little) of the buzz. You’ll notice the taste is usually more “grown up” and nuanced than juice.
Why It’s Catching On
NA wine is growing thanks to people wanting the ritual and taste of wine—whether that’s for health, lifestyle, or just being curious—without the alcohol.
Quick Facts
-
Most NA wines have less than 0.5% alcohol—similar to kombucha!
-
Some do! Others are a little lighter or fruitier than what you might expect. It’s a new adventure every time.
-
Anyone! Those taking a break from alcohol, looking to moderate, or just interested in something new.
